Dr. Alan Russell is our first confirmed speaker! Dr. Russell intends to speak on regenerative medicine.

Dr. Russell (Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry, 1987, Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London) is an Executive Vice President and the Chief Innovation Officer of the Allegheny Health Network. Dr. Russell is also the Highmark Distinguished Career Professor at Carnegie Mellon University where he directs the Highmark/AHN funded Disruptive Health Technology Institute.

Previously, Dr. Russell founded three biotechnology companies (including one that became a successful public company) and was also the Founding President of the now 4,000+ member Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society. In 2012 Dr. Russell served as Chair of the College of Fellows for the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (an elected body consisting of the top 2% of medical and bioengineers in the US). He is currently the longest serving member of the Science Advisory Board to the FDA. During his tenure of service to the FDA, Dr. Russell chaired the ten year review committee of the Center for Devices and Radiologic Health.

Since the outset of his career, Dr. Russell has received numerous prestigious awards for his contributions to research, teaching and public service including the Lifetime Achievement Award from TERMIS; Cockroft Lectureship from University of Manchester; R&D 100; Carnegie Award for Excellence in Science and Technology; American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, Fellow. Dr Russell has published over 150 peer reviewed articles and holds dozens of US and International patents.

Dr. Russell was a speaker at TED in 2006, discussing the future of regenerative medicine.
