We're happy to announce another addition to our technology speakers, Matthew Stanton! In 2011, a group of mechanical engineers studying at Carnegie Mellon University were told by their professor to “make a product that will benefit students on campus.” The result was an energy harvesting shoe with embedded LED lights, allowing users to travel more safely at night. The product earned the group an ‘A’, but for two of the members it was the start of a new company – SolePower. Planned to conclude our event is Heather Arnet, who brings much nonprofit experience to our lineup. For the last twelve years, Heather Arnet has served as the CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation, raising millions of dollars and leading a membership of several thousand in advancing state and local laws to increase rights and opportunities for working families. She has advocated on the local, state, and federal levels for paid sick leave, raising the minimum wage, greater protections for domestic violence victims, equal pay mandates, and women’s health care. Dr. Alan Russell is our first confirmed speaker! Dr. Russell intends to speak on regenerative medicine. Dr. Russell (Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry, 1987, Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London) is an Executive Vice President and the Chief Innovation Officer of the Allegheny Health Network. Dr. Russell is also the Highmark Distinguished Career Professor at Carnegie Mellon University where he directs the Highmark/AHN funded Disruptive Health Technology Institute.
